There is a specific set of steps to get ready for the new year with deTERMINATOR or HSH.

THE PROBLEM

1. The files that come from HDW are in an 8 character + extension.
TTTmmddX

TTT= Track Code
mm = Month
dd = Day
X=File Type (PastPerfs or Results)


The file naming convention was created in the 1990s - when the standard was "8+3."

2. Notice there is NO YEAR!
Therein lies the problem.

3. The Solution
It's simple, really.
Don't mix years!

A. Right now... today... rename your c:\HDW_HSH folder to be c:\HDW_HSH-2025.
B. Exit DET if it's running.
C. Restart DET.
D. It will automatically create a NEW c:\HDW_HSH folder.

4. Just continue downloading in January. Then...
... Once you have all the PastPerfs AND Results for December downloaded...
A. Copy the NEWLY DOWNLOADED December files into your c:\HDW_HSH-2025 folder.
B. Make sure that you DO NOT COPY ANY 2026 files less they wipe out files from 2025!
C. Delete EVERYTHING in the c:\HDW_HSH folder folder.
D. After this, you must not download ANY month 12 files.
E. If you do so accidentally, don't panic. Just empty the entire folder and download all of January again.

5. What happens if you DON'T?
A. Imagine that LAST YEAR you forgot to clean out your 2024 data.
B. Imagine that Dec 1st, 2024 was a Sunday.
C. On that day, you downloaded AQU PPs.
D. Dec 1st, 2025 was a Monday and there was no AQU that day.
E. When you imported Monday, Dec. 1st, 2025, you were shocked to find that AQU had races.
F. But that was because there was no 2025 download to OVERWRITE last year's file, so it imported as this year.
G. Except, since it was the first track to import (in alphabetical order), when it read the YEAR of the file it tagged the ENTIRE CARD as being on Dec. 1st, 2024!
F. The day actually SAVED as 2024!
