I'm going to pass at Saratoga today as al turf racing is being moved to the main track which is muddy. Plenty of days left!!
  • Saratoga 2023
For the Saratoga meet I'll recommend a play or two each day to see if we can make a profit. I will utilize my money management strategy as well. The strategy has been a big part of profitability for me over the years.
    7-13
    Race 7- Obrigada $2 win
    Race 10- Charisse $2 Win

    Good luck
  • Recap first 6 months of 2023

Hi Ranch, what a good question!! I'd like to say 'all of the above'. lol I'm always looking for an opportunity to include a marginal horse in my wager. I'd say that generally I'm looking to play against bad favorites and identify horses where improvement is expected. Most improvement is anticipated through better pace scenarios.
Ranch, please feel free to ask any followup questions as I'm not sure I answered your inquiry well. The questions have certainly got my mind grinding!!

  • Conley-- Congratulations!!
Congrats Conley, just saw the same tweet!

    Hey Conley and Ranch,
I've been giving this some thought and I think it will be best if I recommend maybe 1 or 2 Saratoga horses each day. Posting full card selections is out of the realm of my strength and time to be honest. So lets see how all goes. Good luck Conley

Congrats Conley!! It's good to be doing something you enjoy, which you obviously are. I'll work to get some SAR picks up, as I will be playing everyday!! What type of selections.plays would you like to see?
  • Data/resources inquiry
That is the rating Dave, thank you.
  • Data/resources inquiry
Dave/Dustin, I believe Dave uses a rating he calculates for each race which is based on running lines for entrants. I don't recall the specific name for the rating. In short, the rating represents a PAR for each race based on entrants instead of race conditions. For example, we've all seen $10,000 claiming races that appear much weaker or stronger than an 'average' race.
This rating may be an alternative to PAR yielding better results.
  • Pass?

Ranch, I do not pass on wet tracks. But as someone who plays primarily horizontal wagers, I find more fields scratch down on these surfaces. I have to be careful with the prospect of short fields.
  • Pass?
I pass a race when I don't see a reasonable way to make money wagering on the race. Typically this is when my vision of the race is just like the public vision. A race where my choices could win but still not yield a reasonable profit. I should note that I may still include these races on horizontal wagers.
Another type of race could be when there a too many unknown factors. For example, there may be larger number of FTS. Once again this race could still be included in my horizontal wagers.
  • PP's Question
Pete C, I;m pretty sure I heard of this in a podcast or video from EquinEdge. I listen and watch podcasts all the time. I've never tried or used EquinEdge so I can speak of the product but I do recall a user reviewing their form of PP and referring to several of the ratings from prior races. I'm pretty sure this is what you were looking for. If you research their website of blogs you will learn more. One thing I did notice is they seem to have a large group of users.
  • Potential price for vertical plays
No price bomb here but I do see a mare that my run a lifetime top tomorrow at NY. In race 7, (turf only) I believe Stalla Mars is pointing to a big one. Best of all Clement has the 1 horse who will be bet to favoritism and is beatable in my eyes. Stalla Mars looks a P5 key tomorrow.
  • PP's Question
That is a great idea Pete C!! I recently saw a set of PP's that did just that for some of the factors. I can't recall where but I will try to remember. Great thought!
  • Potential price for vertical plays
Sorry guys I just saw the post. Good idea Jim! At prices lie that you don't need to be right too often! Thanks for posting Jim!!
  • Potential price for vertical plays
Great call Jim!!! Weaver had one heck of a day. Love your analysis!!
  • Potential price for vertical plays
Well once again I'm reminded that there are some very smart players on this board. Tonight Bob ran an even but very disappointing 5th. I expected him to finish with some gusto and he simply did not. Jim and Jack thanks for your honest assessment and Ranch thank you for input as always. I plan to continue to post some overlaid horses on here. Your input is appreciated and a great learning experience for me!
  • Potential price for vertical plays
Thanks for the feedback!! That is the nature of price horses, always more than one way to approach them. You guys all make good points! I definitely realize there are reasons to bet against him but the price may be hard to pass by. lol
More than anything I'd like to pick up the action on this board as there are some very intelligent players out here.
